Present Moment

When we are suffering from anxiety we go into our heads either thinking about our past or our future and our imaginations run riot.

How can we stop ourselves from doing this?

A very simple way is to focus on the present.

If we can be in the present moment we will become calm.

It is easy in an anxiety state to become lost in our thoughts, ruminating about negative things.

First we need to become aware of ourselves doing this and then focus on the now.

Our senses are a great way to do this.

Ask yourself:

What can I see?

What can I hear?

Then become aware of what your are doing and keep focusing on what your are doing.

Your mind will keep wandering and that is fine...

Just keep bringing yourself gently back to experiencing the present through your senses.
